Despite the mortgage industries instability, my husband and I decided it was time for our family to move into a larger home. We owed more on our home mortgage than we could sell it for so we were required to rent out, rather than sell, our home in order to purchase a new one. Because of our situation, the mortgage industry viewed us as a high risk for buying a new house and bailing on our old one. We worked with a mortgage brokers who told us some time after working with us, that we were too “risky” and he could no longer work with us. We consulted with a second mortgage broker and he informed us right off the bat that he would be unable to get us approved for a loan, once again, because of our situation.
